Burnley hope to complete cut-price deal to sign Ian Maatsen this summer

Burnley are reportedly hoping to complete a cut-price deal to sign Ian Maatsen from Chelsea this summer.

According to a report from The Sun, Ian Maatsen could leave Chelsea permanently this summer. And newly-promoted Premier League club Burnley hope to secure a cut-price £10 million deal to land the 21-year-old wide man.

Maatsen was on loan at Burnley last season, and he was quite impressive for them. He scored four goals across all competitions. The 21-year-old needs to move on in search of regular playing time, and a move to Burnley would be ideal. Chelsea will not be able to provide him with regular first-team opportunities.

The 21-year-old wide man can operate as a winger as well, and his versatility will be an added bonus for Burnley and Vincent Kompany. Burnley managed to win the Championship last season, and they were quite impressive with their performances. Their free-flowing attacking football was an instant hit with the fans, and signing Maatsen will certainly help Burnley continue to play that way.

Chelsea will not want to lose a prodigious young talent like Maatsen. But they are powerless to stop him from leaving. The 21-year-old needs to focus on his development at this stage of his career, and sitting on the pitch at Chelsea is unlikely to benefit him.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino already has players like Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella at his disposal. So it seems highly unlikely that the Argentine manager will be able to give ample opportunities to the talented young defender.

Maatsen could fulfil his potential in the coming seasons and establish himself as a key player for a big club. The 21-year-old Chelsea talent has a big future ahead of him, and he could prove to be a key player for Burnley in the coming season.

If the newly-promoted club can sign him for a reasonable price this summer, the move could look like a bargain. Burnley will not only look to do well in the Premier League next season, they will hope to entertain with their attacking football. Players like Maatsen will certainly make a big difference in the final third.
