Barcelona and FC Porto have reportedly advanced the discussions over a possible deal for 21-year-old Spanish midfielder Nico Gonzalez.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Nico Gonzalez is the subject of interest from FC Porto. And the Portuguese giants are closing in on signing the 21-year-old midfield prospect. They have advanced talks with Barcelona over a possible deal in the ongoing transfer window.
Nico Gonzalez is a native of A Coruna and started his youth career at Atlético Coruña Montañeros. The Spaniard has been with Barcelona for a decade, joining La Masia in 2013. And after progressing through the ranks in the youth division, he made his first-team debut for Barcelona in August 2021.
The 21-year-old midfield prospect had benefitted from Barcelona’s never-ending financial woes. But his stock fell as the 2021/22 season progressed. And Nico joined Valencia on loan for the 2022/23 season. But he was constantly in and out of the starting lineup and turned out 26 times for Los Che while chipping in with one goal and one assist.
Now back at his parent club, Nico does not have bright prospects in the 2023/24 season. Two midfielders have joined Barcelona this summer, and the Catalan giants intend to loan him out this summer. And FC Porto might be the next destination for the Spanish midfield prospect.

Sergio Conceicao has a loaded midfield unit in his squad. So the first glance might not reveal bright prospects for Nico Gonzalez at FC Porto. But the Portuguese giants need an injection of quality and youth in the middle of the park. And the Barcelona whizkid has emerged as a viable target.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has suggested that talks between Barcelona and FC Porto have advanced. The two parties are discussing a summer deal for the 21-year-old Spanish midfield prospect. And while the Italian journalist has not mentioned the type of agreement, he will likely move to Portugal on loan.
Recent reports have also linked the Spaniard with Aston Villa. But it seems Nico Gonzalez will likely join FC Porto on loan for the 2023/24 season. It will be interesting to see if a summer move sees the light of day in the coming weeks.
