Liverpool formulating offer to sign Romeo Lavia

Liverpool are reportedly preparing an offer for Southampton’s £50 million-rated star Romeo Lavia, a target for Chelsea and Arsenal.

According to talkSPORT, Premier League giants Liverpool are preparing a transfer offer for Southampton star Romeo Lavia. The 19-year-old is also a target for Arsenal and Chelsea, with Southampton demanding £50 million from his sale.

The youngster joined the Saints from Manchester City last summer and immediately earned his stripes at St. Mary’s. Lavia made 34 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

The 19-year-old was among the standout performers for Southampton last season as the coastal club suffered the ignominy of relegation. With several top-flight clubs now aware of his talent, the Belgian should find himself back in the Premier League sooner rather than later.

A defensive midfielder, Lavia is far from the finished article. A solid dribbler who is immune to performing under pressure, Lavia also excels at interceptions and makes for a solid presence in the middle of the park. This makes him an invaluable asset for teams that recycle possession on a regular basis.

Liverpool are in the market for midfielders and have already landed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. The former excels in connecting the midfield to the attack and progresses the ball, while the latter is a more explosive attacker.

Fabinho and Stefan Bajcetic remain the only defensive midfielders in the Reds’ roster. So it is imperative they bring in another player this summer. Fabinho has regressed worryingly and is far from the dominant presence he once was. Bajcetic, meanwhile, is young and cannot be relied on to make a difference week-in, week-out.

Valued at around £50 million by Southampton, Liverpool will need to fork out the cash to land their man. However, despite the price, Lavia is the perfect foil to the club’s summer recruits and will give them greater strength in depth. More so, just 19, the Belgian will also meet the home grown quota when he turns 21. And the Reds are preparing a bid to sign the youngster.

Arsenal and Chelsea are also keen on the player and could challenge Liverpool for his signature. The Gunners are busy finalising the deals for Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber while the latter is eyeing Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo.

The sooner Liverpool make their move, the easier it might prove for them to land the 19-year-old. He would represent an excellent third summer addition as Jurgen Klopp aims to take the Reds back to the top.
