Chelsea, Liverpool plot Federico Valverde swoop

Chelsea and Liverpool have reportedly made attempts to sign Uruguayan utility man Federico Valverde from Real Madrid this summer.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Federico Valverde is the subject of interest from top Premier League clubs. Chelsea and Liverpool have submitted enquiries to Real Madrid for the 24-year-old utility man. But a move in the summer transfer window is unlikely, with the versatile midfielder happy at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Federico Valverde has become a pivotal figure for Real Madrid since establishing a foothold in the first-team squad. The Uruguayan international took some time to get going due to the presence of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. But he has devised a way to coexist with the two Real Madrid legends.

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti has unlocked a different dimension to Valverde’s game in the last two seasons. The 24-year-old has thus been a utility man as he can play as a right-sided winger and a central midfielder. And he amassed 12 goals and seven assists in 56 outings in all competitions this past term.

But the report by TEAMtalk claims that Valverde might face an uncertain future at Real Madrid following Jude Bellingham’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund. And such a situation has captured the attention of Chelsea and Liverpool. The two Premier League clubs have already approached Real Madrid for the player.

Chelsea recently expressed an interest in the Real Madrid utility man. And amid uncertainties surrounding Mateo Kovacic, Valverde is the ideal candidate to replace the Croat. As for Liverpool, the Reds are in the market for multiple midfielders this summer. They have already signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion.

But Liverpool will pursue more midfielders following the departures of James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. And Valverde’s name features highly on their wishlist. But a summer move for the Real Madrid midfielder is unlikely, with the player revealing he is happy and content at the Santiago Bernabeu.
