Chelsea recently offered €60 million to secure the services of 23-year-old Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Aurelien Tchouameni is the subject of interest from Chelsea. And the Blues have submitted a bid worth €60 million to sign the Real Madrid midfielder. But the Merengues do not want to part ways with the 23-year-old in the summer transfer window.
Aurelien Tchouameni joined Real Madrid from AS Monaco last summer, beating Liverpool to his signature. The French international was a star on the rise after a few impressive seasons in Ligue 1. He had also established a foothold in the French national team while being a part of the squad that reached the 2022 FIFA World Cup final.
But the 23-year-old endured a topsy-turvy ride at Real Madrid this past season, losing his spot as a regular in the latter stages. However, the player ended the season with 50 appearances, chipping in with four assists. Meanwhile, Tchouameni’s descending stature has captured the attention of Chelsea.
Chelsea recently showed interest in another Real Madrid midfielder, Federico Valverde. But Los Blancos will not part ways with the Uruguayan midfielder. Now, the Blues have joined the race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni, submitting a bid worth €60 million. That in itself should have been the first red flag.
Considering Real Madrid paid significantly more to secure Tchouameni’s services, €60 million was never going to get the job done. And the Merengues have unsurprisingly knocked back the offer from Chelsea. Nonetheless, the imposing midfielder is a viable target for Chelsea and would have been a solid fit at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea will lose N’Golo Kante as a free agent this summer, with Mateo Kovacic also likely to depart. In addition, recent reports have linked Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek with summer exits. So Chelsea will have to delve into the market for a midfielder this summer, with Tchouameni being an option worth considering.
