Manchester City ready to make move for Real Madrid target Josko Gvardiol

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, a target for Real Madrid, this summer.

A report from 90min claims that Manchester City will ramp up their efforts to sign Josko Gvardiol. The 21-year-old Croatian international is also a target for Real Madrid. Apparently, the defender is valued at £100 million, and it will be interesting to see if the Premier League champions are willing to spend that kind of money on him.

The 21-year-old RB Leipzig defender has been outstanding for the Bundesliga club, and he was very impressive with his country in the 2022 FIFA World Cup as well. Gvardiol helped Croatia reach the semi-finals and has all the attributes to develop into a future superstar.

Although the asking price seems steep right now, the 21-year-old has the potential to justify the investment in the long run. Meanwhile, Manchester City are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, and they should have no problems paying the reported £100 million asking price. It will be interesting to see if they can beat top competitors Real Madrid to his signature.

It is no secret that Manchester City need to add more depth to their defence. Pep Guardiola has used John Stones as a midfielder quite a few times this season. So Manchester city should look to bring in another central defender if they plan to continue to use Stones in the midfield.

Meanwhile, recent reports have linked Aymeric Laporte with a move away from the Etihad. Gvardiol is versatile enough to operate as a central defender as well as a full-back. He can play in a back four as well as a back three. He could prove to be a major asset for Manchester City in the coming seasons.

Working with a top-class manager like Pep Guardiola would be ideal for the youngster as well and he would get to fulfil his potential with regular football at City. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will have to add more quality in the back, and the 21-year-old Croatian would be a superb acquisition for them.

However, the Spanish giants recently splashed out in excess of £100 million on Jude Bellingham and are thought to be pursuing Harry Kane as well. It seems unlikely that they will spend big money on a defender as well. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few weeks and where the 21-year-old ends up eventually.
