Liverpool lead race to sign Gabri Veiga

Liverpool will look to steal a march on Real Madrid for Celta Vigo midfield prospect Gabri Veiga, whose release clause is worth €40 million.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, a leader has emerged in the battle between Liverpool and Real Madrid for Gabri Veiga. The Reds are in the pole position to sign the Celta Vigo midfield prospect. And unlike Real Madrid, they are ready to trigger his release clause, worth €40 million, to secure his services.

Gabri Veiga has established himself as one of the best young midfielders in the world this season. The Spaniard graduated from Celta Vigo’s academy a few years ago, making his first-team debut in 2020. But he had to wait until the ongoing campaign to become a regular for the Galician club.

The 20-year-old has chipped in with nine goals and four assists in 36 appearances across all competitions this term. And Veiga’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs. These include Liverpool and Real Madrid, with both clubs becoming familiar rivals in the market.

Liverpool and Real Madrid have traded blows for Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham in the last 12 months. And the Merengues have come out on top in both duels, with Bellingham on the verge of joining them. So it is hardly surprising that the Reds want to usurp Real Madrid in the race to sign Veiga.

Recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid will soon present an offer to sign the 20-year-old this summer. But they are not ready to trigger his release clause, worth €40 million. Instead, Real Madrid will submit a bid worth €30 million before loaning Veiga out for the 2023/24 season.

But unlike Real Madrid, Liverpool will happily offer €40 million to prise Veiga away from Celta Vigo. And the report claims that the Reds lead the race to sign the Spanish midfield prospect this summer. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in the youngster is understandable, considering James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will depart from Anfield as free agents.

With Liverpool already losing the race to sign Jude Bellingham, beating Real Madrid to Veiga is crucial. And it will be interesting to see if the Merseyside club can capitalise on the lead over Los Blancos to complete a deal worth €40 million for the Spanish midfield prospect.
