West Ham United plot ambitious move for Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte emerges on West Ham United’s radar as they consider the Italian as David Moyes’ replacement after the season ends.

According to Calcio Mercato Web, West Ham United could target Antonio Conte to become their new manager in the summer. David Moyes could depart the London Stadium in the aftermath of a disastrous season, with the Italian considered in what seems like an ambitious idea.

West Ham United seemed like a stable club, with decent financial resources and players capable of taking the club into European competition. While they have fared well in the third-tier Conference League, their league position has endangered David Moyes’ position.

Moyes was on the brink of a sack for a long time but somehow saved his job with a decent result in the next game. However, West Ham’s 15th position in the Premier League table does not reflect well with the club’s ambitions and the money spent in the market.

Winning the Conference League is the only way West Ham will play European football next season. Irrespective of what happens at the end of the season, the Hammers might part ways with Moyes, with several options being considered already in the wake of some disappointing performances.

Xabi Alonso remains a target for the Hammers, while they were also thinking about other names. London now seems like a bear pit for managers, with the Hammers, Tottenham and Chelsea all looking at new appointments.

While some may not consider West Ham to convince a top-level coach, they are certainly linked with some heavy names, including Maurizio Sarri. However, another Italian has caught the eye, with former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Antonio Conte being considered the Moyes replacement.

Conte has faced a tough phase in his career while managing Tottenham this season. He went on an incredible rant following the draw against Southampton and managed to criticise every aspect of the north London club, including the owners and their ambitions.

He has had similar fallouts with his previous clubs, including Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan. However, his reputation precedes those off-the-pitch problems, as the Italian is known for winning trophies everywhere he goes, barring Tottenham now.

While Tottenham struggles to replace Conte, the Italian might swiftly return to London if he considers West Ham’s position. While there’s nothing official yet, the hammers may sound out their project to Conte and hope to convince him.

Conte will need the right environment and players to make his setup. West Ham may not have the financial muscle of Tottenham or Chelsea, but they could still back their manager with a sizeable budget. Conte could consider the idea, but the Italian has proven notoriously careful when selecting projects.
