Real Madrid considering Luciano Spalletti swoop

Real Madrid will launch the offensive for 64-year-old Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti if Carlo Ancelotti leaves.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb, Luciano Spalletti is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions view the 64-year-old as a possible replacement for Carlo Ancelotti. And the current Real Madrid boss might leave to become the Brazil head coach in the coming months.

Luciano Spalletti is one of the old warhorses of the managerial world. The Italian tactician has been one of the most widely-respected coaches in the game for a long time. But success in a top league eluded him until the ongoing season. While he won the Coppa Italia with AS Roma and the Russian Premier League with Zenit St Petersburg, he has had to wait until 2022/23 to lift a title in a top-five league.

The 64-year-old has been in inspired touch since replacing Gennaro Gattuso at Napoli two years ago. And after showing a lot of promise last season, the Partenopei went all the way this term to win the Serie A title. Spalletti’s stock has thus risen, with several high-profile clubs keen on securing his signature.

Recent reports have pointed to Tottenham Hotspur being the front-runner to land Spalletti’s services. But the Serie A winner is also a target for several other top clubs across Europe. And one of his destinations might be Real Madrid.

The reigning La Liga champions are in a spot of bother over Carlo Ancelotti’s long-term future. And the Italian tactician is a target for Brazil, with the CBF still scouring the market for Tite’s successor. Ancelotti has thus emerged as the top target to replace Tite as Brazil’s head coach.

Real Madrid must thus search for an appropriate replacement for Ancelotti. And several candidates, including Zinedine Zidane, have emerged on Los Blancos’ radar. But Spalletti has now become the top target for Real Madrid to replace Ancelotti if the incumbent vacates his spot in the coming months.

For now, Real Madrid will be focused on going all the way in the UEFA Champions League after winning the Copa del Rey last weekend. And it will be interesting to see if Ancelotti is still at the helm next season. If not, 64-year-old Serie A winner Luciano Spalletti might be managing Real Madrid in the coming months.
