Bayern Munich dream of signing Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old Croatian international has been linked with clubs like Manchester City and it seems that Bayern Munich could join the race as well. According to Christian Falk, Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is a fan of the Chelsea midfielder.

Kovacic has a contract with Chelsea until the summer of 2024 and the Blues could be under pressure to cash in on him this summer if he does not sign an extension with them. Chelsea will not want to lose a player of his quality on a free transfer next summer.

It appears that the 28-year-old midfielder is keen on a new challenge and the opportunity to play for a club like Bayern Munich could be exciting for him. Furthermore, Kovacic was a key player for Tuchel during their time together at Chelsea and a potential reunion could be a tempting proposition for both parties.

It is no secret that the German champions need to add more quality and depth in the middle of the park. The likes of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka are exceptional midfielders, but they are lacking in craft and flair. Kovačić would add a new dimension to the Bayern Munich midfield and help them dominate proceedings in the middle of the park.

The German outfit will be hoping to challenge for the Champions League title next season and they will have to address their weaknesses during the summer transfer window. Apart from bringing in a quality central midfielder, they should look to invest in a goal scorer as well. They are yet to replace Robert Lewandowski who joined Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are keen on the Chelsea midfielder as well and the Premier League giants certainly have the resources to outmuscle Bayern Munich in the transfer race. It will be interesting to see if the Croatian international is willing to continue in the Premier League and snub a move to Germany at the end of the season.

He has already proven himself in English football and the opportunity to test himself in a different league could be a more attractive proposition for the player.
