Real Madrid considering Samuel Chukwueze swoop

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez recently held an informal discussion over a deal for Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze.

According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Samuel Chukwueze is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. Florentino Perez considers the Nigerian winger a potential target for the summer transfer window. And he recently held informal discussions during Los Blancos’ La Liga game with Villarreal this past weekend. The player has a release clause worth €100 million in his contract.

Samuel Chukwueze started his youth career in his homeland and passed through the Diamond Academy. But his stock has risen since arriving in Spain, joining La Liga club Villarreal in August 2017. And after rising through the ranks, he has become a first-team regular for the Yellow Submarine.

The 23-year-old is enjoying his best season yet for Villarreal, amassing 13 goals and 11 assists in 40 appearances thus far. But Chukwueze’s contract will expire in less than 18 months. Such a situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.

Pedro Pablo Parrado has confirmed in the Goals program that Florentino Perez held informal talks with Villarreal during Real Madrid’s La Liga game this past weekend. But the Nigerian international has a release clause worth €100 million in his contract, which might pose a problem.

However, according to the report, the 23-year-old winger might be available for half the amount. Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s interest in the player is understandable, considering the uncertainties surrounding a few players. In particular, Marco Asensio and Eden Hazard are in precarious positions at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Asensio is in the final months of his contract, while Hazard might end his Real Madrid nightmare in the summer. Several attackers, including Dani Olmo, have thus emerged on Real Madrid’s radar. But Chukwueze is also a viable target for Los Blancos, especially if he is available for €50 million instead of €100 million.

The 23-year-old has his best years ahead of him and is already well-settled in La Liga. So he can be a long-term solution in the final third for Real Madrid. And it will be interesting to see if the reigning La Liga champions launch the offensive to sign him this summer.
