Serie A heavyweights Juventus are reportedly keen on signing Sergino Dest on loan from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb, Sergino Dest is the subject of interest from Juventus. The Serie A giants want to sign the Barcelona full-back on loan in the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old is at AC Milan this term after joining them on deadline day last summer.
Sergino Dest was one of the best young full-backs in Europe when he rose through the ranks at Ajax before becoming a regular for the Dutch outfit. So Barcelona seemed to have struck a coup when they landed the youngster in October 2020. But he failed to make his mark, eventually dropping through the pecking order at Spotify Camp Nou.
The 22-year-old failed to make an impression on Xavi Hernandez, who sanctioned his departure last summer. Dest eventually joined AC Milan on deadline day but has struggled at San Siro. And the USMNT international has managed only 635 minutes of game time thus far this season.
AC Milan will thus not sign Dest permanently from Barcelona in the summer transfer window. But the young full-back might remain in Serie A, with Juventus interested in securing his services. And the Bianconeri will look to land the player on loan for the 2023/24 season.
Juventus might need to invest in a right-back in the summer transfer window. That is because Mattia De Sciglio has blown hot and cold. Meanwhile, Juan Cuadrado is well into his thirties and approaching the end of his glittering career. As for Danilo, the Brazilian international primarily plays as a centre-back for the Serie A outfit these days.
The Serie A giants have thus shown interest in several right-backs, including Ivan Fresneda. And Dest is also a viable target for Juventus, considering he is not in Xavi’s plans going forward. But it is unclear if Barcelona will be open to another loan departure instead of selling him permanently.
However, Barcelona will have no option but to loan him out again if the 22-year-old is unable to attract any permanent bids. It will be interesting to see how negotiations with Juventus progress if the Serie A heavyweights approach the Blaugrana.
