Moises Caicedo is ‘worried’ about a summer move to one of the big English clubs like Chelsea after a failed January move to Arsenal.
According to Football Insider, Moises Caicedo is ‘worried’ about his chances to join a big club in the summer. He may have wanted to join interested suitors like Arsenal or Chelsea, but Brighton & Hove Albion blocked a transfer as they refused to sell him mid-season.
Moises Caicedo has rapidly risen in English football, despite making under 30 Premier League appearances. He was signed for a paltry sum by Brighton two years ago but has since become one of the top-rated midfielders in the division.
There was interest from a few clubs during the summer window, but Brighton had only sold Yves Bissouma to Tottenham. Hence, they were uninterested in selling other talents and kept him at the club. So far, he has been an immense presence in the team, helping the Seagulls rise to sixth on the table.
While Brighton wanted to have momentum heading to the second part of the season, interest from top-four clubs in Caicedo rocked their boat. One of those was Chelsea, who made the first move but saw a £55 million offer rejected by Brighton.
Caicedo was immediately attracted to joining Chelsea but knew any move would be difficult. Then came Arsenal, who saw two offers worth £60 million and £70 million, respectively, rejected by Brighton. The Premier League ace was forced to plea on social media, asking the Seagulls to accept the proposal from the Gunners.
Brighton remained firm and even asked Caicedo to stay away from training until after the transfer window closed. Meanwhile, many clubs, including Arsenal, are keen to make a summer move. Still, Mikel Arteta’s priorities may change when the next window opens, as Declan Rice’s name gets a heavy mention in media circles.
Similarly, Chelsea remain interested. But again, Caicedo remains ‘worried’ that a move to Stamford Bridge might not materialise. The feeling is that these clubs have switched their targets or acquired alternatives. In the case of Chelsea, they have already signed Enzo Fernandez on deadline day, leaving any prospective move for the Brighton star in doubt.
Yet, clubs could show an interest and swoop in for the Premier League ace, who will push to leave in the summer. For now, there are doubts whether Arsenal or Chelsea will prioritise him as their No.1 target, but there could be more clubs like Liverpool or Manchester United coming in for his signature.
