Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang dreaming of Barcelona return

Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked with a move away from the London club and wants to rejoin Barcelona.

According to Spanish publication SPORT, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had the option to move to Major League Soccer. But the Chelsea striker has now rejected their opportunity in favour of a return to Barcelona at the end of the season.

The Chelsea misfit dreams of returning to the Catalan club. And it remains to be seen whether the west London club can agree on a deal with Barcelona in the coming months.

The 33-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window. But the Blues decided to leave him out of their Champions League squad recently and that has fueled speculations surrounding the player’s long-term future at the club.

Aubameyang has struggled to hit top form since his return to the Premier League. And he has scored just thrice in all competitions. It makes sense for Chelsea to cash in on him in the summer.

A player of his calibre was expected to make an immediate impact and improve Chelsea in the final third. The former Arsenal captain is clearly not the player he used to be, and Chelsea will have to invest in a quality young striker at the end of this season.

The Blues are struggling to find the back of the net consistently. And they have been linked with the number of goalscorers, including Victor Osimhen, in recent months. Todd Boehly has backed his manager considerably in the transfer market since taking over at Stamford Bridge.

The new owners have pumped millions into the playing squad. But Chelsea still need to address a few shortcomings before they are capable of challenging for the major trophies. Apart from a reliable goalscorer, Chelsea should look to bring in a quality central midfielder and some depth in the full-back department.

As far as Aubameyang is concerned, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona are prepared to bring him back to the club. The Blaugrana have shown interest in the veteran attacker lately. But he is unlikely to get regular game time ahead of Robert Lewandowski. So it could prove to be a strange decision for the player.
