Chelsea considering Mason Mount sale

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season, with Liverpool interested.

According to a report from Evening Standard, Chelsea could be inclined to sell Mason Mount at the end of the season. The 24-year-old attacking midfielder is a target for Premier League rivals Liverpool.

The 24-year-old has 18 months left on his current contract with the west London club and the Blues have not been able to secure a contract extension with him yet. Apparently, Chelsea Co-owner Todd Boehly is handling Mason Mount’s contract extension personally. But there has been very little progress so far.

Mount has been a key player for Chelsea since breaking into the first team seen. And he was chosen as the club’s Player of the Season for the last two years. Apparently, the England international wants a major pay rise similar to that of his England teammates.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea are prepared to offer him those wages in the coming months. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old’s situation has captured the attention of Premier League rivals Liverpool.

It seems that Chelsea are willing to offer the player security by offering him a seven-year contract. But the proposed wages are well below the going rate for a quality Premier League player.

It will be interesting to see if Mount is willing to give in and sign the new deal with the Blues in the coming months. The 24-year-old is a boyhood Chelsea fan, and staying at Stamford Bridge is likely to be a top priority. However, a player of his ability deserves to earn higher. And a number of Premier League clubs are thought to be keeping tabs on him.

The report from Evening Standard claims that Liverpool and other big six Premier League clubs are ready to test Chelsea’s resolve at the end of the season. It remains to be seen if Chelsea are prepared to let him leave in the summer.

The Blues have already cashed in on Jorginho, whose contract was coming to an end at the end of the season. Meanwhile, N’Golo Kante could be on his way out of the club as well with his contract expiring in the summer. On top of that, the likes of Mateo Kovacic and Conor Gallagher have had no discussions regarding new contracts. And the duo could be moved on in the summer.

It seems that Chelsea are set for a major midfield overhaul at the end of the season. And they will need to bring in multiple signings in order to replace the aforementioned players. The Blues spent a club-record fee on Enzo Fernandez in January. And they will have to invest significant sums of money in the summer as well.

Mount has proven himself to be a capable Premier League player. And the 24-year-old could prove to be a quality acquisition for most Premier League clubs. A player of his quality will have no shortage of suitors in the summer. And it remains to be seen where he ends up.
