Barcelona dream of re-signing Lionel Messi

La Liga heavyweights Barcelona reportedly dream of re-signing former captain Lionel Messi if he leaves Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Lionel Messi is a dream target for FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants want to bring the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner back to Camp Nou if he leaves Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent in the summer transfer window.

Lionel Messi is arguably the greatest player of all time and has cemented his legacy after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina. The 35-year-old was the driving force for La Albiceleste to reach the promised land. And the diminutive wizard won the Man of the Match award in each of Argentina’s knockout games.

On top of that, the former Barcelona captain was also crowned the Player of the Tournament, as he won the Golden Ball for the second time. Messi fell just short of winning it all, with Kylian Mbappe pipping him to the Golden Boot. But that will not matter to the experienced attacker after winning the World Cup by beating France in the final.

As for Messi’s future at the club level, the veteran playmaker will enter the final six months of his contract in January. And Paris Saint-Germain will soon initiate talks with him for a new deal. In the meantime, he remains a dream target for Barcelona, with Joan Laporta keen on bringing him back to Camp Nou.

But recent reports have claimed that Messi is bothered by reports linking him with Barcelona. And Joan Laporta’s false promises have reportedly irked the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner. Meanwhile, Barcelona will not be the only club pursuing the Argentine wizard, with Inter Milan also tailing him.

But Fabrizio Romano has provided a disappointing update for Barcelona fans. The reputed Italian journalist has claimed that while Barcelona will be dreaming of re-signing Messi, he will likely remain at PSG beyond the summer transfer window.

The update will come as a blow for Barcelona. But with their financial woes not going away, it was not practical to dream of re-signing Messi anyway. Meanwhile, PSG will likely keep him beyond the ongoing season, hoping to win the elusive UEFA Champions League with him.
