Real Madrid submit offer for Josko Gvardiol

La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid have submitted an offer to sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, a target for Chelsea.

Gianluca Di Marzio has told soccernews.nl that Real Madrid and Chelsea have made bids to sign Josko Gvardiol. The reigning La Liga champions want to sign the RB Leipzig defender in the summer transfer window. But with Chelsea looking to land him in January, Real Madrid might need to enter the market.

Josko Gvardiol has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world following a brilliant campaign in Qatar. The 20-year-old was already one of the best young centre-backs in the world due to his exploits with RB Leipzig. But Gvardiol has been excellent at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, meaning his stock has skyrocketed.

The Croat has turned out 65 times thus far for RB Leipzig, chipping in with three goals and four assists. And Gvardiol has one last match in Qatar with the Vatreni before returning to Germany for club football. In the meantime, the player’s heroics have captured the attention of Real Madrid and Chelsea.

Real Madrid might view Gvardiol as a two-pronged solution in the defensive unit. Nacho has yet to commit his future to Los Blancos and might depart from the Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent. In addition, Ferland Mendy faces an uncertain future at Real Madrid, with the Merengues mulling over a sale.

Gvardiol has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, considering he can play as a centre-back and a left-back. The reigning La Liga champions are ready to break the bank to sign the youngster and have already submitted an offer. But Real Madrid will need to be wary of the competition from Chelsea.

Like Real Madrid, the Blues have also tabled a bid to sign Gvardiol. But Chelsea will look to secure his services in January, unlike Los Blancos, who might wait until the summer. And the interest from Chelsea is hardly surprising, considering Thiago Silva is in the twilight of his career.

As for Real Madrid, the Merengues might have to dip their toes in the market due to Chelsea’s push for a January move. It will be interesting to see if the Spanish champions make a rare January signing. For now, both Real Madrid and Chelsea have tabled offers to sign the 20-year-old.
