Jadon Sancho on Chelsea radar

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing English winger Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.

According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb, Chelsea are plotting a surprise move for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho once Christian Pulisic leaves the club.

The 24-year-old American international has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, and the player is reportedly looking to join a club where he can play regular first-team football. Chelsea are already lacking in the attacking department, and they will have to bring in a quality reinforcement when Pulisic decides to leave the club.

Sancho arrived at Manchester United with massive expectations. But the young winger has not been able to live up to the expectations so far. His performances have been largely underwhelming, and a move away from Old Trafford could be ideal for him.

The former Borussia Dortmund winger clearly needs a fresh start, and a move to Stamford Bridge could give him that. Also, Manchester United are thought to be keen on signing Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, and the Dutchman’s arrival will push Sancho down the pecking order.

Chelsea need to add more quality and flair in the wide areas, and Sancho seems like a smart acquisition. The England international could be available for a reasonable price because of his poor performances at Old Trafford. So it remains to be seen whether Manchester United are prepared to cut their losses on him and sell the player in the upcoming windows.

There is no doubt that Sancho is a top-notch player with the potential to become a world-class footballer. Ideally, Manchester United should stick with him and let Erik ten Hag bring out the best in the winger with time. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few months now.

Chelsea certainly have the financial resources to pull off the transfer, and new owner Todd Boehly is expected to be active during the summer transfer window. The Blues already improved the defence considerably during the summer transfer window, and they are expected to invest in their midfield and attack at the end of the season.

Sancho could prove to be a quality long-term signing for Chelsea if he manages to regain his confidence and sharpness in the coming months.
