Out-of-favour Chelsea winger and USMNT World Cup star Christian Pulisic would reportedly consider a move to St. James’ Park during the upcoming January transfer window.

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke (via CaughtOffside), Newcastle United are interested in signing Christian Pulisic in January, and a move to St James’ Park could be a genuinely appealing proposition for the American international, who will be desperate to leave Chelsea when the transfer market reopens in January.

Newcastle have made an impressive start to the new Premier League season, with the Magpies firmly in contention for a Champions League place. While Eddie Howe’s men are currently in fine shape, they may require more reinforcements if they are to sustain their top-four quest in the New Year, with a repetition of last season’s January window perhaps being required.

The Magpies have shown ambition since the change of ownership last year, and moving into the Premier League’s top four will have increased their pulling power as they look to add more top-notch, world-class talent to their roster.

One man who would be interested in completing a move to St James’ Park when the market re-opens is Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic, with PIF reportedly prepared to fork out around €45 million to lure the USMNT international from west London.

Pulisic has blown hot and cold since joining Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 and is now looking for a move away from Stamford Bridge in order to rejuvenate his career. The winger was very highly rated as a youngster at Dortmund, but the £58 million transfer to the Premier League has not really worked out as he has failed to replicate that form at Stamford Bridge.

While he had a decent debut season in 2019–2020, where he managed 21 goal contributions, he has since struggled to find the same levels of consistency. This has been largely due to injuries and the ever-increasing competition for places at Chelsea. The talented forward has made sporadic appearances for Chelsea this season, starting only three Premier League games.

Despite not being able to secure a consistent run of games, Pulisic is a top-quality player with plenty of potential, as seen by his impressive performances at the World Cup. He was a standout for his country with one goal and two assists before their tournament came to an end as they fell to a 3-1 last-16 defeat to the Dutch.

With Newcastle mooted to be on the lookout for a winger in the upcoming winter transfer window, Pulisic would fit in perfectly for the Toon with his ability to play anywhere in attack. With abundant pace, directness, creativity, agility, technical ability, and dribbling, he would be a real weapon in attack for Eddie Howe and co.

Manchester United are also considering signing Pulisic on-loan in January to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, so if the Magpies can pip them to his signature that would be a big boost to their top-four hopes.
