Liverpool are reportedly tracking the development of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount as talks of a new contract have not progressed.
As per The Guardian, Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Mason Mount, who is entangled in contract negotiations with Chelsea. The 23-year-old has been with the club since his youth days and has been one of the most promising prospects at Stamford Bridge.
Mount is deemed as one of the most prized assets of the west London club, and new owner Todd Boehly is pretty determined to bind him to a new contract. He is currently with the England national team in Qatar and is participating in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Mount is tipped to be a central figure for Chelsea in near future. But the youngster is not satisfied with the contract offer tabled by Chelsea. Substantial adjustments need to be done as the attacking midfielder wants to feel important from the monetary aspect. He also wants to wait to see how Chelsea progress this season.
Negotiations are expected to take place after the World Cup, and Liverpool are keeping their options open. Jurgen Klopp is impressed with Mount’s tactical awareness and might want to have the player at his disposal.
A creative midfielder is what the Reds are lacking, and Mount could fill the gap. Chelsea have not had much success this season, but the English midfielder has been permanent in the starting lineup.
Chelsea will have some key decisions to make as they might lose both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho next summer. In addition, Edouard Mendy is also not very happy after losing his position to Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Liverpool are destined to lose Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer, while the likes of James Milner and Jordan Henderson are proof of their ageing midfield. A creative spark is definitely missing, and the Liverpool manager is expected to address the issue in the summer.
Mount would not be interested in a move away from Stamford Bridge for the time being. But Chelsea also cannot risk venturing ahead without tying him down to a long-term contract. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool would test Chelsea with a lucrative bid in the winter transfer window.
