West Ham United are vying for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Tete in January, despite the Brazilian’s loan deal at Lyon.
According to The Sun, West Ham United are in a tussle to sign £25 million-rated Brazilian winger Tete. The attacker is currently on loan at Lyon, although parent club Shakhtar Donetsk remains open to a deal in January.
Tete has emerged as one of Lyon’s stand-out players in an otherwise disappointing start to their campaign. The Brazilian winger has netted 5-times and assisted 3-goals in 11 league appearances. Those displays have caught the attention of Premier League clubs, with West Ham United among those keen.
In the summer, Tete was a target for Southampton but could not agree on the player’s wage demands. He eventually joined Lyon on a season-long loan and have put in tremendous performances. The winger was considering joining the Premier League, and his dream could materialise in January.
His contract ends in December 2023, meaning Shakhtar will be keen to cash in during January to get a fair value. Tete is reportedly valued at £25 million by the Ukrainian side, and a fair few would be willing to pay it.
West Ham, who were keen during the summer, may approach Shakhtar with an offer. The complication with a potential deal would be to buy out his loan contract with Lyon. The French giants would be eager to keep him on board for the remainder of the campaign, but any decision would be with the player.
They could undoubtedly receive decent financial compensation for breaking up the loan deal. Meanwhile, West Ham boss David Moyes is keen on attacking reinforcements and is willing to make space with few sales. Manuel Lanzini is already transfer-listed by the Hammers.
The Hammers have struggled to score goals this season, which has altered their league progress. Bringing in an attacker, particularly the £25 million-rated Brazilian winger, would help them shore up a problematic area.
Said Benrahma currently occupies the right wing for West Ham, and the winger has yet to be up to the standards this season. Tete could help shore up the area and add some much-needed attacking impetus to the side.
