Real Madrid keen on signing William Saliba

La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly considering signing William Saliba from Arsenal in the 2023 summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, William Saliba is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the 2023 summer transfer window. The in-form Arsenal centre-back is one of three central defenders on Los Blancos’ radar.

William Saliba had to fight hard for his place as a regular for Arsenal. But after a few successful loan stints in Ligue 1 with Saint-Etienne, OGC Nice, and Marseille, he has finally become a pivotal figure for the Gunners. In fact, the 21-year-old is now one of the first names on the team sheet at the Emirates.

The French defender has turned out 11 times for Arsenal, chipping in with two goals and one assist. And his performances have not gone unnoticed, with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Real Madrid, setting their sights on him.

The reigning La Liga champions bolstered the heart of their defence this past summer by signing Antonio Rudiger. In addition, David Alaba and Eder Militao also joined Real Madrid in the last two years, thus beefing up their backline. So it is unclear why Los Blancos will want to sign another centre-back next year.

But Nacho might not be at the Santiago Bernabeu beyond the 2022/23 season. That is because contract renewal talks between Real Madrid and the Spaniard have not gone as planned. So Real Madrid might have to delve into the market for a centre-back in 2023, with Saliba emerging as a viable target.

Apart from the in-form Arsenal centre-back, other players, including Pau Torres and Milan Skriniar, are also on Real Madrid’s radar. Meanwhile, the Gunners are reportedly prioritising extending Saliba’s contract. That is because he will enter the final year of his deal next year, thus bringing his suitors into the picture.

Meanwhile, Saliba has also attracted other suitors, including Paris Saint-Germain. But with Arsenal keen on keeping hold of the in-form French centre-back, it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid or any other club can secure his services next summer.
