Real Sociedad might look to launch the offensive to re-sign former talismanic forward Antoine Griezmann from Barcelona this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Antoine Griezmann is a dream signing for former club Real Sociedad heading into the summer transfer window. The French forward also features on the radars of other La Liga clubs, Atletico Madrid and Athletic Club and will likely leave Barcelona ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Antoine Griezmann has spent his entire professional career in La Liga. The French international started at Real Sociedad after graduating from the Basque club’s academy. And he took his career to new levels upon joining Atletico Madrid in 2014, establishing himself as one of the best forwards in Europe. Griezmann’s next move came when completed a transfer to Barcelona three years ago.
But the 31-year-old has endured a dramatic fall from grace in the last three seasons, with a loan stint back at Atletico Madrid not working out either. Griezmann managed only eight goals and seven assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. But despite his struggles, he remains a popular figure in the transfer market, with Real Sociedad joining the race to sign him.
Real Sociedad will unlikely be able to afford to sign Griezmann from Barcelona in the summer transfer window, but he remains their dream signing. The experienced attacker could be a top-class addition to the first-team squad at the Reale Arena, especially with the team lacking consistent goalscorers.
But Griezmann might not move back to Real Sociedad in the summer transfer despite having his long-term future at FC Barcelona up in the air. Instead of remaining at Camp Nou or rejoining his former club this summer, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner wants to move back permanently to Atletico Madrid.
Griezmann has also emerged on the radar of another Basque outfit, with Athletic Club keen on securing his services in the summer transfer window. But Griezmann’s desire to rejoin Atletico Madrid permanently might stand in their way of landing the Barcelona forward.
However, the report by Fichajes claims that Atletico Madrid might not re-sign Griezmann in a permanent deal despite reports pointing to the contrary. So the French forward’s future remains uncertain as he returns to Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
