Real Madrid offer Luka Jovic in deal to sign Fabian Ruiz

La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid have reportedly offered out-of-favour Serbian forward Luka Jovic to Serie A giants Napoli to land Fabian Ruiz.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Carlo Ancelotti is keen on bringing Fabian Ruiz to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. Los Blancos will be hoping that Serie A giants Napoli accept their offer of Luka Jovic plus cash to land the 25-year-old midfielder.

Fabian Ruiz joined Napoli from Real Betis in July 2018 and has since established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A. To date, the Spanish international has turned out 159 times for the Partenopei, chipping in with 29 goals and 14 assists in the process.

But the Serie A giants are in a spot of bother over the 25-year-old midfielder’s long-term future, as he will enter the final year of his contract in the summer transfer window. Ruiz’s precarious position at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium has not gone unnoticed, with some of the most high profile clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, setting their sights on him.

The interest from Real Madrid stems from the advancing years of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. The ageing midfield stalwarts are approaching the final phases of their respective careers and will have to start getting phased out of the first-team picture sooner or later.

But signing a midfielder is particularly urgent for Real Madrid because Isco and Dani Ceballos face uncertain futures at the Santiago Bernabeu and will likely embark on new challenges in the summer transfer window. The two Spanish midfielders are heavily linked with several La Liga and Serie A clubs, and their exits will prompt Real Madrid to bring in a replacement.

Ruiz is thus a viable target for Real Madrid, with the 25-year-old keen on joining either them or Barcelona in the summer transfer window. And the Spanish giants have stepped up their efforts to land Ruiz, offering out-of-favour Serbian forward Luka Jovic to Napoli.

With the Serie A giants bracing themselves for enquiries for Victor Osimhen, signing Jovic could be a step in the right direction. But it is unclear whether Napoli will accept Real Madrid’s proposal or ask for a straight cash deal to offload the Spanish international.
