Ferran Torres is reportedly pushing Barcelona to pursue a summer move for former Manchester City teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ferran Torres has recommended Oleksandr Zinchenko’s name to Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants could pursue the Manchester City utility man ahead of the 2022/23 season, with the Premier League champions open to selling him.
Oleksandr Zinchenko joined Manchester City from FK Ufa in July 2016 and has been a key part of the first-team setup since returning from a season-loan loan stint with PSV Eindhoven in 2017. While the Ukrainian international has never been a first-choice option for the Cityzens, he has been an asset for Pep Guardiola due to his ability to play as a midfielder and a left-back.
The 25-year-old has turned out 118 times for Manchester City, chipping in with two goals and nine assists in the process. But Zinchenko’s time with the Premier League champions could end in the summer transfer window. And his next destination could be Barcelona, with Ferran Torres pushing the Blaugrana to sign him.
Barcelona will likely delve into the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window, as Jordi Alba has shown signs of regression lately. While the veteran Spanish defender has been in a resurgent mood under the tutelage of Xavi Hernandez, he is approaching the final phase of his illustrious career.
With Alejandro Balde yet to completely settle down in the first-team setup at Camp Nou, Barcelona will need to sign a left-back in the summer transfer window. To that end, several players, including Fran Garcia, have emerged on their radar, with Oleksandr Zinchenko also a viable target.
The Manchester City utility man could also be an option in midfield, playing in the middle of the park when Jordi Alba starts ahead of him at left-back. And the Premier League champions are open to cashing in on the 25-year-old, as they wish to sign a left-back in the summer transfer window amid links with Tyrick Mitchell.
