La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up the prospect of replacing Carlo Ancelotti with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.
According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Thomas Tuchel is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are considering replacing Carlo Ancelotti if they do not win the La Liga title, with the Chelsea manager one of the options on their radar.
Carlo Ancelotti is currently serving his second stint as the Real Madrid manager, having returned to the Santiago Bernabeu ahead of the ongoing season following a short spell with Everton. And after some initial hiccups, the Italian tactician has overseen a largely stable campaign, which could end with Real Madrid reclaiming the La Liga title.
The Merengues have already won the Spanish Super Cup and are into the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, where they will face Chelsea. But following the 4-0 hammering Real Madrid received at the hands of bitter rivals Barcelona in the final El Clasico of the season, Ancelotti’s position at the Bernabeu is under threat.
While the 62-year-old will likely remain at the helm at Real Madrid going into the 2022/23 season, he will lose his job if the Spanish giants squander their healthy nine-point lead atop La Liga. And one of the options on Florentino Perez’s radar is Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel is one of the most accomplished coaches in the past decade, having enjoyed a lot of success in the last few years, particularly with Paris Saint-Germain. And after joining Chelsea last year, the German tactician immediately left his mark at Stamford Bridge, delivering the UEFA Champions League title and beating Real Madrid along the way.
Tuchel’s credentials have been boosted further in the past month, as he has steered Chelsea to a stable footing amid a difficult period following the sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich. But despite pledging his commitment to Chelsea, the 48-year-old continues to get linked with several clubs, with Real Madrid the latest to show interest in him.
But with Tuchel committed to Chelsea, Real Madrid will have to set sights on alternatives, which include Mauricio Pochettino (PSG), Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool), Raul Gonzalez (Real Madrid Castilla) and Xabi Alonso (Real Sociedad B).

Among the alternate options on Perez’s radar, Klopp is on top of the pecking order, although prising the German manager away from Liverpool will be a tall order. Pochettino could be the most approachable target unless inexperienced options like Raul and Xabi Alonso rise up the ranks for Real Madrid.
