According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Serie A giants Juventus have held talks with Antonio Rudiger over a possible Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The Chelsea centre-back is also a target for Real Madrid and Manchester United.
Antonio Rudiger has come a long way since joining Chelsea from AS Roma in July 2017. Nearly five years since then, the German international is a mainstay at the back for club and country and is currently enjoying the best phase of his career.
To date, the 29-year-old has made 188 appearances for Chelsea, with 39 outings coming this term. But as things stand, the Blues are resigned to losing Rudiger as a free agent, with the club unable to tie him down to a new contract following the latest sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich. This has captured the attention of Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Juventus.
Rudiger has been linked most heavily with Real Madrid, with Los Blancos reportedly in constant dialogue with the Chelsea defender. The pursuit of the German defender stems from the advancing age of Nacho, who is a backup player at best anyway. Rudiger’s addition in the summer will bolster Carlo Ancelotti’s options considerably.
As for the interest from Manchester United, with Eric Bailly and Phil Jones facing uncertain futures at Old Trafford, a summer investment in a centre-back will be required. With Harry Maguire blowing hot and cold this season, signing a proven leader like Rudiger will be a step in the right direction.
Real Madrid and Manchester United will have to fend off stiff competition from Juventus in the race to sign Rudiger. The Bianconeri will soon require a long-term solution at the back, as Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci are in the twilight of their respective careers, prompting the Serie A giants to enter the market for a central defender.
