La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid reportedly view 22-year-old Real Sociedad striker Erling Haaland as a possible alternative to Erling Haaland.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid will be keeping their options open in their bid to sign a striker in the summer transfer window. While Erling Haaland is the priority target for Los Blancos, Alexander Isak has emerged as an alternate option.
Alexander Isak has long been regarded as one of the most promising young strikers in Europe, having been compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic during his time at AIK. A move to Borussia Dortmund did not work out, but the Swedish international has shown signs of improvement since joining La Liga outfit Real Sociedad in July 2019.
While the 22-year-old is not a finished article yet, he has been promising for Real Sociedad, raking in 41 goals and eight assists in 120 appearances across all competitions. And Isak’s progress since joining La Real has not gone unnoticed, with La Liga giants Real Madrid one of his prospective suitors.
Real Madrid will likely enter the market for a striker in the summer transfer window due to the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Mariano Diaz and Luka Jovic. The two strikers have been on the fringes of the first team since their respective arrivals at the Santiago Bernabeu and are expected to call it quits at Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
While Mariano has not been linked with many clubs, Jovic seems to be a popular figure in the market, with Serie A and the Premier League clubs keen on signing him. As for Real Madrid’s pursuit of a striker, Erling Haaland is their priority target.
Recent reports have also claimed that the La Liga heavyweights have tabled an offer to sign Haaland. But with the Borussia Dortmund striker being one of the most highly sought after players in the market, Real Madrid will need to keep their options open, which is exactly what they are doing by targetting Isak.
The 22-year-old is merely an alternate target for Haaland. But his acquisition might facilitate a smoother transition from Benzema to the next generation, which might not be the case if Haaland joins Real Madrid. That said, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid set sights on the move for Isak or if Haaland joins them, as planned.
