La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid reportedly have no intention of parting with Eder Militao amid interest from Chelsea.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Real Madrid will not be entering negotiations for Eder Militao in the summer transfer window, with the Brazilian defender not interested in leaving the club either. The 24-year-old is a target for Chelsea, who will need to set their sights elsewhere.
Eder Militao joined Real Madrid from FC Porto in July 2019 and has since established himself as one of the best defenders in Europe. Despite experiencing some teething problems at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Brazilian international is now an indispensable figure for Los Blancos.
To date, the 24-year-old has turned out 76 times for Real Madrid, with 35 outings coming in the ongoing campaign. Militao’s exploits since Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane’s departures last summer have particularly impressed prospective suitors, with Chelsea among the clubs closely monitoring his progress.
The interest from Chelsea stems from the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger. The three defenders have entered the final six months of their respective contracts with the Blues and could depart Stamford Bridge as free agents in the summer transfer window.
Coincidentally, all three defenders have been linked with Real Madrid, with Azpilicueta the latest to emerge on the radar of the Spanish giants. As for Chelsea, Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr are the only other recognised centre-backs at Thomas Tuchel’s disposal.
Signing a central defender is necessary for Chelsea, with Eder Militao emerging as a viable target in a possible summer move. But the west Londoners have no chance of snapping up the 24-year-old, with Real Madrid unwilling even to enter negotiations for him. The Brazilian international has no interest in leaving Real Madrid either.
Chelsea will thus need to set their sights on alternatives, considering they have no option but to invest in a centre-back in the summer transfer window. But what appears to be certain is that Eder Militao will be staying put at Real Madrid next season.
