Corentin Tolisso is reportedly keen on joining Real Madrid, handing a major blow to his other suitors, including Atletico Madrid.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Corentin Tolisso has taken a final call on what the future holds for him once he leaves Bayern Munich next summer. The French midfielder wants to join Real Madrid on a Bosman move ahead of other suitors like Atletico Madrid.
Corentin Tolisso joined Bayern Munich from Lyon in July 2017 amid a lot of hype surrounding him. However, after a strong start to life at the Allianz Arena, the 27-year-old has struggled to be an influential figure for Die Roten, with injury woes taking a toll.
To date, the French midfielder has made 109 appearances for Bayern Munich, chipping in with 19 goals and 15 assists in the process. However, Tolisso’s spell with the Bundesliga champions is close to ending, as he is in the final year of his contract with the club and unlikely to renew terms. Such a situation has alerted Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
The interest from Real Madrid is understandable, considering Luka Modric is in the final phase of his career. In addition, Toni Kroos is well into his thirties and approaching the twilight of his playing days. At the same time, Dani Ceballos and Isco face uncertain futures at the Santiago Bernabeu and are likely to leave the club in January.
So, Real Madrid must sign a central midfielder at the earliest possible opportunity, with Tolisso emerging as a viable target. However, the Spanish giants face stiff competition from local rivals Atletico Madrid.
Recent reports have claimed that the reigning La Liga champions are battling Real Madrid to sign Tolisso. And Atletico Madrid’s eagerness to sign the 27-year-old makes sense, as Hector Herrera is heavily linked with AS Roma, while Saul Niguez could be sold once he returns from his loan spell at Chelsea.
However, Atletico Madrid, and other suitors like Tottenham and Juventus, have been handed a major blow in pursuit of Tolisso, as he is keen on joining Real Madrid. So, following such a development, it remains to be seen if the Bayern Munich midfielder moves to Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.
