Barcelona and Liverpool are reportedly vying for the signature of Christian Pulisic, but Chelsea are hesitant in listening to offers from the Reds.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Christian Pulisic is weighing up the possibility of leaving Chelsea in search of regular game-time. Barcelona and Liverpool are courting the USMNT international, but Chelsea will only listen to offers from the Blaugrana, who might not be able to afford his €50 million price tag.
Christian Pulisic joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2019 and has since struggled to establish himself as a firm first-choice option in the attacking unit. The American forward has been blighted by injuries over the last two years, meaning he has found it difficult to embark on a run of games, particularly since last season.
To date, the 23-year-old has made 83 appearances for Chelsea while garnering a tally of 19 goals and 14 assists in the process. However, with starts coming at a premium, Pulisic could seek a new adventure to kick-start his career. Such a development has piqued the interest of Barcelona and Liverpool.
Pulisic is not the only Chelsea player to have emerged on Barcelona’s radar. The Catalan giants have also been linked with Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Timo Werner, with Pulisic also a viable target due to his ability to play through the centre.
Barcelona could also do with a new wide attacker, with Memphis Depay and Ansu Fati the only reliable outlets on the flanks as things stand. So, Pulisic is a viable target for the Catalan giants, who face stiff competition from Liverpool in pursuit of the Chelsea forward.
The interest from Liverpool is understandable, considering Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will turn 30 before the season draws to a close. The Reds also need a wide attacker to be brought into the squad in January, as Salah and Mane will represent their national sides at the Africa Cup of Nations.
However, while Pulisic is an option worth considering for Liverpool, Chelsea have no intention to discuss a deal with their Premier League rivals, thereby handing a boost to Barcelona. But, Barcelona cannot afford his €50 million price tag, which, in turn, puts the 22-year-old forward in a spot of bother.
So, having been left in limbo, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Pulisic. He could yet have a bright future at Chelsea, although it remains to be seen if Liverpool can tempt the Blues with an appealing offer.
