Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing 25-year-old Turkish defender Caglar Soyuncu from Premier League giants Leicester City next summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Caglar Soyuncu has once again popped up on the radar of Real Madrid, this time over a move in next summer’s transfer window. The 25-year-old Leicester City defender is being viewed as a potential alternative to Antonio Rudiger, who is one of their priority targets for the defensive unit.
Caglar Soyuncu joined Leicester City from SC Freiburg in the summer of 2018 and has since ended up establishing himself as one of the best defenders on show in the Premier League. A mainstay at the back for the Foxes, the Turkish international has amassed 90 appearances to date for the former Premier League champions, chipping in with two goals and an assist along the way.
However, by the time the summer transfer window reopens next year, Soyuncu will have entered the final year of his contract with Leicester, which in turn will bring potential suitors into the equation. One such club that is keeping an eye out on the developments surrounding the 25-year-old are Real Madrid.
The interest from Real Madrid is understandable, considering they only brought in one potential replacement for two first-choice centre-backs who departed the Santiago Bernabeu. Indeed, despite the exits of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, only David Alaba came in as a potential central defensive reinforcement.
However, the Merengues now look determined to right that wrong next summer, as a result of which they have been linked with a number of centre-backs this month. The priority target for Real Madrid appears to be Antonio Rudiger, who could become a free agent next summer if he does not renew terms with Premier League heavyweights Chelsea.
Now, though, Los Blancos have set their sights on Soyuncu as well, with the Turkish defender being viewed as a potential alternative to Rudiger. However, the 25-year-old is not the only Leicester City centre-back on Real Madrid’s radar, with Wesley Fofana also a target for them.
As far as Soyuncu is concerned, it remains to be seen if he ends up becoming the priority for Real Madrid ahead of Rudiger. And if the Spanish giants do come calling, it will be interesting to see if he calls it quits at the King Power Stadium next summer.
