Aston Villa are reportedly expected to accept a £100 million bid from Manchester City for Jack Grealish in what will be the English transfer record.
According to a report by Sky Sports, Manchester City are inching closer to securing the services of Jack Grealish in the summer transfer window. The Premier League champions are expected to have their £100 million offer for the English international to be accepted by Aston Villa, with the fee setting the British transfer record.
Jack Grealish has become one of the hottest properties in England on the back of two scintillating seasons in the Premier League. Having first been the single-most influential factor in helping the Villans secure their top-flight status, the 25-year-old just went from strength to strength last term and took them close to a top half finish.
To date, Grealish has made 213 appearances for Aston Villa, tallying a record of 32 goals and 43 assists in the process. This summer, he also impressed for England at UEFA Euro 2020, as the Three Lions reached the final before falling short to Italy. His progress has also alerted a number of top Premier League clubs, and none more so than Manchester City.
Manchester City initially battled Manchester United in pursuit of Grealish before becoming sole contenders in pursuit of a player who has been one of their priority targets this summer. The Premier League champions were briefly challenged by Chelsea for the 25-year-old playmaker, but have now become clear front-runners in the race to sign him.
The Citizens showed their intent by submitting an offer worth £100 million to Aston Villa. And it now looks like Manchester City have succeeded in their bid to land Grealish, who has surely been a viable target for them heading into the summer transfer window.
That is because Bernardo Silva is facing an uncertain future at the Etihad whereas Raheem Sterling experienced a significant dip in his levels last term. Grealish’s arrival would also take some of the burden off of Manchester City talisman Kevin De Bruyne, all while reinforcing their wide attacking options.
Aston Villa, who have shown a lot of ambition in the transfer market, were willing to offer Grealish a bumper new contract, but are now ready to sell him for a British transfer record £100 million. What now remains to be seen is if Grealish indeed ends up completing a big move to Manchester City or if Villa miraculously keep hold of their captain.
