Tottenham are reportedly keen on signing Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva and can make the Portuguese international a part of the Harry Kane negotiations.
According to a report in Transfer Market Web, Tottenham are great admirers of Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva and are interested in bringing him to the club. It is understood that the Citizens will offer Silva to Spurs as a makeweight in their blockbuster move for Harry Kane.
With Jack Grealish inching closer to make a £100 million switch to Manchester City, the Premier League champions are now keen to offload some of their stars who will become surplus to their requirements and one of the names that has popped up is Portuguese star, Bernardo Silva.
Since joining Manchester City from AS Monaco, the 26-year-old has netted 35 goals and registered 44 assists in 201 appearances made for the Citizens. Silva was a key player even in the last campaign, clocking up 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and laying on nine assists. The arrival of Jack Grealish means he will move further down the pecking order.
Talking about his numbers, Silva is a real dynamo covering both ends of the pitch excellently. He averaged 1.7 tackles and interceptions, taking 1.7 shots, making two key passes and completed 1.7 successful dribbles per game in the last Premier League season. Known for his versatility and excellent link-up play, Silva also made 3.21 SCA (shot-creating actions) and 10.53 progressive carries, which rank him in the top 99 percentile bracket.
Silva is a tenacious wide man who has a killer first touch and can execute flair dribbles to off-balance his markers. He has got a wand of a left-foot capable of placing really powerful shots from outside the box. At 26, Silva is reaching the peak years of his career, needs regular playing time to be consistent with his productivity and to justify the potential of his talent.
Silva has become a victim of the riches of Manchester City and is suffering due to that. He is currently competing with some very top players, the likes of Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez, for a starting berth. With Grealish’s imminent arrival at the Etihad, he will move further down the pecking order. That is why it becomes sensible to him and the club to part ways.
On the other side, Tottenham will get a very talented and skilful team player. Silva’s versatility will come in handy for Nuno Espirito, who will probably deploy his trusted 3-4-3 system. Silva will be a perfect fit for the right wing slot, opposite Son Heung-min.
He is reportedly earning £150,000-a-week which might be a problematic figure for Daniel Levy, but if Tottenham get the deal done, then they have an extremely talented individual on their hands, whose prime is yet to come.
Both Atletico Madrid and Arsenal have registered their interest in the player, but it seems like Tottenham do have the edge and greater negotiating powers to acquire the services of the Portuguese playmaker. What now remains to be seen is if Spurs can indeed swoop Silva away from Manchester City this summer.
