Official: Barcelona confirm Sergio Aguero capture

Barcelona have announced the signing of Sergio Aguero, who makes the switch to Camp Nou by penning a two-year deal with the Catalan giants.

Barcelona have made an official statement to confirm that they have secured the services of Sergio Aguero. The veteran Argentine striker, who has committed his next two years to the Blaugrana, will officially complete the free transfer on July 1 after his contract with Manchester City expires.

Aguero is widely regarded as one of the very best players of his generation and a bonafide Premier League legend, having enjoyed a fruitful decade with Manchester City. The 32-year-old won as many as 15 trophies with the Citizens – the most by any player in the history of the club – while also being their all-time leading goalscorer with 260 goals from 390 appearances.

Suffice to say, Aguero has etched his place in the history of Manchester City after breaking records galore all while being a pivotal member of the first-team setup. However, his time with the English giants will officially come to an end on July 1, which is when he will also complete a Bosman move to Barcelona.

Barcelona have, in fact, been hot on the trails of the veteran Argentine striker ever since it was announced that he will be leaving Manchester City as a free agent. And, while several other clubs had been heavily linked with him, Aguero always appeared to be destined to join the Catalans after holding talks with them as early as April.

As the 2020/21 season approached its end, it had become clear that Barcelona were on the verge of securing his services, with a medical being scheduled for after the UEFA Champions League. And now, the move has been officially confirmed, with Barcelona signing Aguero on a two-year deal.

The player’s contract also contains a €100 million release clause, with his arrival kicking off a series of signings, most of which be on a free transfer. In fact, Barcelona are also set to sign Eric Garcia and Georginio Wijnaldum on Bosman moves, while Emerson Royal is also seemingly destined to arrive at Camp Nou soon.

As for Aguero, he returns to La Liga after a decade, having previously spent five years with Atletico Madrid – the current Spanish champions. It will now be interesting to see how the 32-year-old fares upon making the move to Barcelona, as the new phase of his career kicks off.
