Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly offered a four-year deal to Real Madrid superstar Lucas Vazquez.
According to a report by Spanish outlet ABC, Lucas Vazquez is set to call it quits at Real Madrid, who have not tabled an acceptable contract offer for him. With a move in the summer transfer window on the horizon, Chelsea and Manchester United are among the clubs that have offered him a lucrative four-year deal.
Lucas Vazquez has been a handy option in the Real Madrid first-team setup over the past half-a-decade or so. Never really viewed as a pivotal figure at the Santiago Bernabeu, the 29-year-old has chipped in with some important contributions for Los Blancos, particularly in the ongoing season, when several other big-name players have faltered.
A return of 2 goals and 7 assists in 31 appearances might not appear to be impressive enough, but it is important to note that he has played nearly half of the campaign as a right-back. But, Vazquez faces an uncertain future at Real Madrid, with his current deal set to run out in the summer. Such a situation has piqued the interest of Chelsea and Manchester United, among others.
The interest from Chelsea is intriguing, considering they bolstered their attack heavily last summer. However, with both Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech having been linked with possible exits in the upcoming transfer window, apart from Timo Werner, a spot in the attack could open up.
In addition, Vazquez could also arrive at Chelsea this summer as competition for Reece James, who is currently the first-choice right wing-back under Thomas Tuchel. As for Manchester United, the interest in the versatile Real Madrid superstar could well be more straightforward.
For years now, the Red Devils have been yearning for a solution to their woes on the right flank. In Vazquez, they could have a twin-pronged fix, as he could push Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the right-back slot or simply be deployed as a right-winger, where he would have Amad Diallo as competition in the years to come, especially with Mason Greenwood likely to slot in as a striker if Anthony Martial is offloaded.
Apart from Chelsea and Manchester United, AC Milan and Bayern Munich are also interested in the 29-year-old. In fact, each of the four suitors have offered him a four-year deal with wages that are higher than the €3.5 million he currently earns at Real Madrid every year.
In contrast, Real Madrid are only willing to offer him a three-year contract while also slashing his salary by 10 percent. For their part, Real Madrid seem to have identified a replacement in Jorge de Frutos, and even though Zinedine Zidane wishes for Vazquez to stay put at the club, it looks like Chelsea, Manchester United or the other suitors could well swoop him away instead.
