PSG are reportedly eyeing a move for Paulo Dybala, who has been a Manchester United target this summer, as a possible replacement for Neymar.
According to reliable French outlet Paris United, PSG have set their sights on Paulo Dybala for a move in this summer’s transfer window. But, the Argentine international, who is also a target for Manchester United, will only be pursued in case Neymar ends up departing from Parc des Princes.
The transfer saga surrounding Dybala might only be a recent one. But, in such a short period, it has become one of the most engrossing stories of the summer transfer window. The situation escalated quickly, with rumours of Manchester United’s interest in the Argentine international swirling last week.
The rumour mill then went into full swing, with suggestions that Dybala could be on his way to Old Trafford as part of a swap deal that would see Romelu Lukaku join Juventus. But, reports this week have claimed that the staggering deal is off, with Manchester United pulling the plug on it.
The Red Devils’ reasoning seems to be sound, having baulked at Dybala’s extravagant wage demands coupled with asking for excessive figures in agent fee. But, while Manchester United may no longer be interested in signing the 26-year-old, PSG have emerged as suitors in his pursuit.
For much of the summer transfer window, the French champions have been braving themselves for a possible departure of star attacker Neymar. Over the course of 2019, the relationship between the Brazilian international and PSG seems to have broken down. And, with Barcelona being heavily linked with their former player, a summer exit has been mooted.
As per the latest developments, however, Neymar’s return to Barcelona is off, with vice president Jordi Cardoner ruling out a move for their former star. But, PSG are still keeping their options open in case the Brazilian does end up calling it quits at Parc des Princes, which has seen them turn their attention towards Dybala.
Les Parisiens would still prefer parting ways with the troublesome superstar, but that would not be possible unless he is able to attract a suitor. However, in case Neymar does end up leaving, Dybala would be the ideal player to turn towards to boost the creative void left by his departure.
Dybala, bar last season, has also proved to be a prolific customer in front of goal, meaning he could be a viable replacement. But, in the case that Neymar does not leave, PSG are unlikely to make heavy investments. So, it remains to be seen if Dybala does join the Ligue 1 champions this summer, with his Manchester United move seemingly off.
