Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly considering Alisson for a possible summer move, with Liverpool also in the fray for the Brazilian
According to a report by Daily Mirror, Manchester United and Chelsea will launch a move to sign Alisson if their respective goalkeepers call it quits in the summer transfer window. Liverpool are also interested in the AS Roma number one, with Jurgen Klopp eager to boost his goalkeeping options.
Alisson has embarked on a remarkable rise in stature this season following the culmination of Wojciech Szczesny’s two-year loan deal at AS Roma. Having emerged out of the shadows of the Polish goalkeeper, the Brazilian has made the Giallorossi‘s number one jersey his own while establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Italy.
So far this season, the 25-year-old has kept 14 clean sheets in 33 appearances, conceding just 29 goals. It is, thus, not surprising to note that a gamut of top clubs across Europe have set their sights on Alisson, with Liverpool reportedly leading the race to sign him.
The problems in the goalkeeping department at Liverpool are well documented. Neither Simon Mignolet nor Loris Karius have managed to perform consistently for the Reds. And while Karius seems to have turned a corner at Anfield, the former’s time at the club seems to be up. Alisson is, thus, a viable target for Liverpool.
But, Liverpool now potentially face stiff competition from Manchester United and Chelsea in pursuit of the shot-stopper. Both clubs are in a precarious situation regarding Real Madrid’s interest in their first-choice goalkeepers, David De Gea and Thibaut Courtois, respectively.
If comments by the goalkeepers themselves are anything to go by, Los Blancos face a tall order in their pursuit, with De Gea reaffirming that he is happy at Manchester United and Courtois confirming that talks are underway with Chelsea over a new contract.
But, the Chelsea number one has also confessed that he would like to move back to Madrid one day to be with his family, which could hand Real Madrid some impetus to pursue a move for him. If that happens, the Blues could enter the market for Alisson, giving Liverpool a run for their money.
For now, Manchester United are in the most comfortable situation as far as the goalkeepers are concerned, and it is likely that Liverpool could go head-to-head with Chelsea to land Alisson. It now remains to be seen where the Brazilian heads off to, as his stock continues to rise.
