Liverpool have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Kai Havertz, having invited him to Melwood last month
According to an exclusive report by Football Whispers, Liverpool are turning on the charm to lure Kai Havertz to Anfield. The Merseyside club invited the Bayer Leverkusen prodigy to their Melwood training ground last month, with Jurgen Klopp, Steven Gerrard and Philippe Coutinho present during his visit.
Havertz currently has the world at his feet with his stock constantly on the rise with each passing week. Having progressed through the ranks at Bayer Leverkusen, the German wonderkid didn’t just break into the first-team setup last season but also became a regular for the Bundesliga outfit, when he was all of 17.
His reputation has continued to burgeon this season, and he became a common name on the lips of keen observers when he netted four goals to inspire Germany to an Under-19 Euro Qualifier win over Belarus last season.
Back home, Havertz has racked up 10 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, with three assists to show for his efforts. More remarkably, he has drawn comparisons in his homeland with Mesut Ozil, and is being touted to achieve big things in his career.

Unsurprisingly, he has attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world, with prominent names in the Premier League in particular tailing him. Among them though, Liverpool have showed the most concrete of interests, and have now stepped up their pursuit of the youngster.
The Reds invited Havertz to their Melwood training base in October, with Jurgen Klopp, Steven Gerrard and Philippe Coutinho present to greet him and his agent, which goes to show just how much serious they are about the young talent.
Coincidentally, he might have been earmarked as the long-term replacement for Coutinho, who is being heavily linked with a move to Barcelona. Indeed, apart from the Brazilian playmaker, Liverpool lack a player who could provide a creative spark from midfield, making Havertz a viable target.
As far as the player is concerned, he is likely to be enticed by the prospect of working under Jurgen Klopp, who has famously developed many an explosive attacking talent, including Marco Reus and Mario Gotze among others.
However, Havertz is likely to come for a sizable fee, having only recently signed a five-year deal with Bayer Leverkusen in July. It now remains to be seen if Liverpool succeed in bringing the highly rated youngster to Anfield, having shown a lot of interest in him in recent months.
