Picture: Manchester City Exclude English Wonderkid From Their Champions League Squad

Manchester City have announced their squad for the Champions League group stage, having once again been drawn in a tough group. The Citizens have chosen to omit new signing, English wonderkid, Patrick Roberts from their squad.

The rules of UEFA permit clubs to name a 25-man squad with at least eight homegrown players, but, City only have four players who meet the criteria, and none of them are club-trained – Sterling, Delph, goalkeeper Joe Hart and left-back Gael Clichy, who was with the Arsenal FC academy.

The situation means City could not name the 4 club-trained players and hence, had to submit only a 21 man squad. This left the club to make the choice of excluding former Fulham younster Patrick Roberts from the squad.

City have also excluded Nigerian attacker Iheanacho, who was in the squad against Watford at the weekend alongside Roberts, and new signing Aleix Garcia from the squad. City have included all other big money recruits in the squad (Sterling, de Bruyne, Delph, Otamendi),
