Andrea Pirlo Poised To Join New York City FC In The Coming Season
Legendary Italian midfielder Andrea Pirlo is all set to join MLS side New York City FC at the end of this season.According to Spanish daily AS, Pirlo would be donning the . Juventus jersey for the last time in UEFA Champions League final against FC Barcelona on Saturday before heading towards a possible move to USA. He has supposedly accepted an offer from the New York club.
If the move materializes, the Italian will join the likes of two other iconic footballers Frank Lampard and David Villa at the MLS club.
Frank Lampard had joined New York City FC last season from Chelsea but he was sent out on loan to Premier League club Manchester City for the entire season. Lampard will head home this time around. Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard on the other hand is on his way to LA Galaxy.
Andrea Pirlo, 36 still has a year left in his contract with the Old Lady, but it is believed that he will make an early exit from the club. He had joined the side in 2011 and since then have won 4 Italian Serie A titles. In the present season, the veteran midfielder has played 20 league games scoring 4 times.
According to the league rules in USA, a franchise is allowed to make three designated player signings. If Pirlo deal actually happens the club will have the likes of Lampard, Villa and Pirlo in their ranks. New York City FC have struggled so far in their debut campaign as they managed to win just 1 out of their 13 East Conference matches.
