Chelsea FC manager Jos Mourinho insists he wanted to return to the London side after his spell at Real Madrid, information that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was privy to

There has been a lot of speculation regarding Manchester United potentially overlooking Jos Mourinho for the manager’s position a particularly following claims in Spanish journalist Diego Torres’ book a but Sir Alex Ferguson’s new book ‘Leading’ has ended the rumours once and for all.

The Portuguese always planned to return to Chelsea FC, something that he reiterated in an interview with the BBC for their documentary on the legendary Manchester United manager titled ‘Sir Alex Ferguson: Secrets of Success.”

Mourinho insists Ferguson knew he was returning to Chelsea FC

The Blues’ boss is struggling like never before this season, but has been successful since his return to the English capital, winning the Capital One Cup and the English Premier League in 2014-2015.

In an interview with the BBC for their upcoming documentary about Sir Alex Ferguson, Mourinho revealed (via Daily Mirror): “Every manager in the world looks at Man United as a huge club but I wanted to come to Chelsea and we didna t bring that to the table because we were so open and he knows so much about myself.

.

“He knew that for almost a season I want to leave Real Madrid and I want to come to Chelsea.”

The Portuguese at the helm of Manchester United would have been a frightening prospect

Given their unparalleled wealth and spending power in relation to other English clubs, the thought of a manager like Jos Mourinho in charge of a club with the resources of Manchester United is a frightening one.

The Portuguese is the closest thing there is to a guarantee in modern football, and it is difficult to imagine the Red Devils going two seasons without winning a trophy following Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign had Mourinho been in charge a particularly considering the amount of money they have spent in the transfer market over that period.

As it happens, Mourinho returned to Chelsea FC and took them back to the top in England, while Louis van Gaal now faces the daunting task of returning United to their glory days with competition from the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.

With the Premier League getting ever more competitive and unpredictable, perhaps the neutral football fan has benefited from Mourinho not taking over at Manchester United.
