The first leg of the Indian Super League (ISL) semi final match between Chennaiyin FC and Atletico de Kolkata has been shifted to the Belawadi Stadium in Pune, due to the incessant rains that have brought the city of Chennai to a grinding halt.

Chennai has been experiencing heavy rains in the recent weeks, and this has resulted in massive levels of flooding, leaving many people stranded on their rooftops, with most of the ground floor under water. The situation is so bad in the sea-side city, that the government has had to sent in the army to carry out relief operations.

Chennaiyin FC played their last home game Mumbai City FC a week ago, and the effects of the rain was quite visible even on the pitch at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, as the players had to wade through puddles of water, in the match.

The Super Machans played their last match at the Belawadi Stadium against home side FC Pune City, and have remained in the Maharashtra city since then.

Chennaiyin FC issued a statement on the issue through their official social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter. Here is their tweet.
