Chelsea Set To Beat Manchester City, Arsenal In Chase For Chile Star

Jose Mourinho is looking to add another midfielder to his already well equipped midfield as he prepares for the side’s Champions League aspirations next season.

The Star reports that the Chelsea is in the race for Chile star Charles Aranguiz.

The player has been linked with both Manchester City as well as Arsenal but Chelsea are supposedly in talks with the 26-year-old’s Brazilian club Internacional over an A?8 million transfer.

The midfielder has impressed greatly with Chile and was instrumental in the nation’s recent Copa America win. He scored two goals and grabbed an assist in the tournament. In fact, he had been involved with the Chilean national team since 2010, but his name was only brought to the fore last year at the World Cup, when he scored against Spain.

.

The central midfielder has the ability to play anywhere in the heart of the pitch. He can play the defensive midfielder role, pitching in with tackles and interceptions or slightly ahead in a more attacking role. FIFA’s official website described him as “a crafty, tigerish midfielder of the highest order, notable for his ability to win and distribute the ball, pick out passes and hit the back of the net”

For Chelsea, who are said to have a good relationship with Internacional, he could prove to be an astute signing. The player provides an upgrade on both John Obi Mikel and Ramires and would be a quality addition to the squad. He might take a while to break into the first team, but if given regular chances, he definitely has the ability to establish himself in the first team. At 26, he represents little resale value, but he is not likely to cost too much and could prove to be worth every penny the club spends for him.

Manchester City are said to be indecisive about the player while Arsenal’s interest in the player is yet to come close to being formalized. Therefore Chelsea have a very good chance of landing the player. However, these are just rumors and speculation at the moment and have not been confirmed by any legitimate source. Whether Chelsea do have genuine interest in the player and are coming out with a bid for him remains to be seen.
