Kolkata Giants Mohun Bagan have been the most active club in the transfer season as they look to end their trophy drought under Subhash Bhowmick. Ai??Bhormick who has replaced Bencherifa will look to bring a trophy to the club in the 2014/15 season which will incidentally be club’ s 125th year in Indian Football.
With the signings at hand, it is clear what the Club wants to achieve and what it wants to build over the next couple of years. It can be said the that Mohun Bagan is looking forward and embarking on creating a successful squad over the years who can dominate the I league and lead the club again to its glories. The Club has tried to achieve a mix between youth and experience, which is clearly evident from their signings of Alao Fatai Adisa, Dhanchandra Singh and Lalkamal Bhowmick which gives the squad much needed steele and experience, on the other hand the signing of players like Jeje, Randeep Singh and Sehnaj Singh add to the youth in the ranks. It is important for Subhash Bhowmick that he finds a combination of the right players with a mix of talent involved. Alao Fatai Adisa To Lead Bagan’ s Defense in the upcoming season
Alao Fatai AdisaAi??is Bagan’ s second foreign recruit for the upcoming season, with theAi??first being Yusa Katsumi, who had been retained after a brilliant maiden campaign. Adisa was a first team regular since 2009 for his Yemen based club Al Oruba from which he was signed. He also scored the winning goal against East Bengal in Kolkata in the 2012 AFC Cup group stage. Alao’s performances in the two matches against East Bengal made him a target of the red and goal brigade. Alao adds the much needed experiences, physicality, tactical awareness that was missing in the Bagan back four. On the contrary Alao will be feeling the pressure to fill the boots of Anyichie Echezona, one of the best centre backs in the I league.
Dhanachandra Singh, the 27 year old who plays as a Left back, has been signed from United SC. Belting 37 appearences for United SC, clearly states that Singh, has delivered the performances and the defensive stability needed from a LB, moreover his 2 goals also give us a hint, on how he good he is as an attacking option. Standing at 1.80m, Singh adds the experience and the expertise needed in the Bagan back four.
Signed from Churchill Brothers, Satish Singh is one of the future prospects of Indian football. Standing at 1.78m the player who plays as a Right Back has been consistent whenever he is included in the squad.
LalKamal Bhowmick’ s Return Bolsters The Midfield
Mohun Bagan fans are well versed with LalKamal BhowmickAi??who served them for 5 years (2005-2010) making 110 appearances and scoring 21g oals in that period. Bhowmick, has been one of the Central Pillars of the sides he has played in, be it Bagan or United SC, the midfielder has delivered on a constant basis and has stepped up when needed. The 27 year old who plays as a Center Midfielder was signed from United SC. The inclusion of Bhowmick gives a box to box midfielder to the club which was lacking in the seasons before.
Another midfielder signed by Bagan from United SC is Souvik Chakraborty. The talented midfielder who started playing football at the age of 8, and played in the Manchester United Premier Cup when he was 15, adds another exciting prospect into the ranks of the club. Ai??Signed from Mumbai FC, Sehnaj Singh is one of the most promising players in the country. He is one of talents in the midfield department who if groomed properly can be of the best centre midfielders in the country. His performances with Palian Arrows and Mumbai F.C clearly indicate what the player has in his baggage.
Former Arrows and Churchill Brothers left winger Tirthankar Sarkar has also been added to the roaster by Mohun Bagan.The left winger was one of the players to the squad that went to play in Manchester, England for the Manchester United Premier Club. His best days came in the Pailan Arrows colors where he had accumulated 32 appearances and found the net twice. Randeep Singh , who gave a decent account of himself at Salgaocar has also been roped in by the Mariners.
Jeje To Add Bite To The Attack
One of the most talented player in the country, Jeje has been dubbed many things from the new Bhutia to the new Chhetri. The Mizoram born striker has fascinated the country with his pace, scoring record and finishing. Jeje, is perhaps the one of the best signings of the Club, having scored 37 times in 95 appearances, it is clear that his goal scoring prowess can be compared to only a few. The striker has a mix of experience and youth (23 years old), which can be beneficial to Mohun Bagan and perhaps he can resolve the goal scoring problems of the club.
The signings of Alao Fatai Adisa and Dhanchandra Singh clearly indicate that the Kolkata based club has gone for experienced defensive players, well versed with the ways of the I- league and having a good reading of the game. Satish Singh adds the youth and legs in the Right Back position, it is evident that the Satish will only develop in the company and guidance of these players and perhaps one day will be one of the best Right Backs in the league. The Midfield area is fulfilled by the inclusion of once again the experienced Lalkamal Bhowmick who adds the technicality to the game, the signings of young players like Sehnaj Singh and Randeep Singh adds to the pace much needed in the wings. The midfield looks balanced with the inclusion of experience as well as youth.
With Mohun Bagan signing almost a squad, it is clear that there are changes in the mentality of the board of the Club. Youth Grooming being the new trendsetter in the I league, Bagan have already signed some of the best talents around in the country. The signing of experienced players add to the mix that is much needed in a season’s run. The squad is still in a transitional phase and is not expected to win much this season, however with the amount of talent at hands an upset would be likely.
