Former Chelsea FC midfielder Frank Lampard is close to completing his surprising move to Manchester City on a short-term loan deal.
Frank Lampard was released by Chelsea this summer and the England international joined MLS club New York City on a two-year contract. But with the MLS season starting in March, Lampard is set to complete a surprising move to Manchester City, on loan for six months.
Frank Lampard, who made 648 appearances for Chelsea since signing for them in 2001, was released by the London club this summer as his contract expired. Lampard has attained legendary status among the Blues fans for his consistent performances over the years and is the leading goal scorer in the clubai??i??s history.
The 36-year-old midfielder won three league titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, one Champions League and a Europa League title during his during his 13 years stint at the club. But Chelsea didnai??i??t offer him a new contract this summer with Jose Mourinho signing a host of new players as he looks to rebuild the squad following a disappointing season last time around.
Finally, after enduring another World Cup exit with England, Lampard decided to join MLS club New York City and expressed his delight at the prospect of facing newer challenges. But the England international wonai??i??t be able to participate till March, when the new season begins in USA, and report suggest that he is close to completing a move back to the Premier League with reigning champions Manchester City.
Man City are looking to sign Lampard on a six-month loan deal and it could mutually benefit both the parties. Lampard is keen to maintain his fitness till the pre-season preparations of New York City starts, while being in England will also help him gain the attention of England manager Roy Hodgson. Manchester City on the other hand will sign an experienced player, but most importantly, an English player to fill their quota.
Manchester City are expected to complete Lampardai??i??s registration in the following days, and could be in line to play against his former club, when Man City host Chelsea on 21st September in the Premier League.
