Bayer Leverkusen’s Karin Bellarabi is enjoying a terrific season so far which has resulted in a lot of transfer speculation doing rounds regarding him. It was reported back in October thatAi??Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City and Newcastle all had scouts watching the Bayer Leverkusen star in his sideai??i??s 2-0 Champions League win over Zenit St Petersburg. But recently, German newspaperAi??SportBildAi??separatedAi??Chelsea’s interest out saying the player is also on their radar.
The 24 year old came through the youth ranks at Eintracht Braunschweig and moved to Bayer Leverkusen in 2011. He went back to Eintracht Braunschweig last season on loan, and since his return this season, he has proven to be Rodger Schmidt’s side integral part and taken the league by bit of a storm.
So far this season, the attacker has got 8 goals and two assists in 17 Bundesliga games. His good form earned him and that form has seen him call up and the 24 year old played the full ninety minutes in Germany’s Euro qualifier defeat to Poland. Since then, he has played 4 times for his country and has clearly earned the trust of Joachim LAi??w
The attacker plays on the wing, and can be employed on both the flanks. He can also be played behind the striker, but his preferred position is outside on the wings (mainly right wing where he has been used on most occasions) and he enjoys cutting inside and driving in from wider positions. He has also been used as a forward once and he scored a goal in the game. Bellarabi can play on the right wing, left wing or through the middle. He’s versatility in attack.
His contract with Leverkusen runs out in June, but the club has the option to extend it for 2 years, and considering the player’s current form, the club would certainly act upon it.
The basis for SportBild’s report on Chelsea’s interest in the player is them scouting him during a European game. However, that match was Bayer Leverkusen versus Benfica and the club could have easily been scouting someone else and the most easy suggestion is them looking at Benfica’s AndersonAi??Talisca, who Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on, on various occasions. Hence, the grounds of the report are not very convincing, but then again, there are possibilities of them looking at Bellarabi. Chelsea don’t need the player as they already have the likes of Schurrle and Salah looking for first team opportunities hence spending money on someone Leverkusen will not sell cheaply doesn’t make much sense. Reports with Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham make more sense in that regard as these sides need attacking reinforcements.
