Arsenal are in for some positive news as recent reports have suggested midfilder Joao Moutinho is unhappy at AS Monaco and defender Fabian Schar is close to signing for the Gunners in January.
Portuguese midfielder, Moutinho, has been recently linked with a move to Arsenal which may cost the Gunners close to a A?30 million. Latest reports indicate the 28-year old is unhappy at his current club, French side AS Monaco, and is keen to make his way to the Premier League.
Formerly a FC Porto player, Joao Moutinho moved to Monaco in 2013 when the French club began its attempts to become one of Europeai??i??s top clubs. The Portuguese was recruited to the club along with James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao. With both the Colombians having chosen to leave the club in just a season, Moutinho feels lost at Monaco and he is looking to follow in the footsteps of Falcao and James.
According to the Daily Express, Moutinho has handed in a transfer request and is looking to make a move away from the club in the January transfer window. Along with Arsenal, Moutinho has also been linked to Premier League clubs Manchester United and Chelsea.
Arsenal, who are falling short in the midfield department due to injury woes and lack of sufficient depth, are said to be on the lookout for a defensive midfielder. Moutinho has the ability to play a deeper role in the midfield but is more of a playmaker. Though physicality may not be the Portugueseai??i??s greatest strengths, the midfielder can prove to be a reliable figure in the long-term considering the likes of Mikel Arteta and Flamini struggling to do justice to the role and the ever increasing injury woes to Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey.
Another good news for Arsenal fans are the reports emerging of defender Fabian Schar closing in to join the Gunners in January.
According to reports, the Basel defender is very close to signing for the London-club for a fee believed to be in the region of A?9 million.
The 22-year old is a commanding centre-back who has previously stated his desire to depart Basel for a leading Premier League club. Also interested in signing the defender are Chelsea and Spurs.
Schar would be an important addition to the Arsenal squad if they manage to bring him in. Arsene Wenger is currently struggling in the defensive department with injuries to prominent players like Koscielny and Debuchy. The lack of depth has lead to various problems in the defence with the manager resorting to deploying left full-back Nacho Monreal in the centre-back position.
