Anderlecht are demanding €15 million for Sergio Gomez, with Manchester City seriously interested in the left-back.
According to Belgian outlet HLN, Manchester City transfer target Sergio Gomez will cost €15 million in the current market, as Anderlecht remain relaxed about speculations over his future. Pep Guardiola’s side are serious contenders to sign the Spanish full-back after recent setbacks in pursuit of their preferred targets.
After having made some eye-catching signings this summer, Manchester City’s primary concern before the transfer deadline would be to bring a new left-back, having sold Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal earlier.
Sergio Gomez is the latest name Pep Guardiola’s side are chasing to reinforce the position, who incidentally was also a target for Arsenal before Zinchenko arrived. Manchester City were forced to turn their attention towards the 21-year-old after suffering a setback in their pursuit of top target Marc Cucurella.
Negotiations with Brighton stalled following disagreements regarding their asking price for Cucurella. Manchester City saw a £30 million offer rejected and were unwilling to go beyond £40 million. The Seagulls stood firm on their £50 million valuations, leading to the Premier League champions calling off their pursuit.
It allowed Chelsea to swoop in and quickly open talks with Brighton. As things stand, the Blues have made an offer worth more than £50 million, and a deal is close to being finalised even though the Seagulls had issued a statement denying an agreement on Wednesday.
With Cucurella now Stamford Bridge-bound, Gomez has become an essential target for Guardiola and Manchester City, as a new left-back must arrive before the window shuts. The Anderlecht star is keen on joining the Cityzens, and his price tag may also suit the Premier League champions.
Anderlecht are demanding €15 million for the 21-year-old from interested parties, with Manchester City seriously considering signing the player. The Belgian side are reportedly in a relaxed position and in no rush to get the sale done, as Gomez has a contract until 2025.
Whether Manchester City decide to pay the requested sum remains to be seen. If the club go into the season without bringing in a new left-back, they could have big problems with the lack of depth in the position.
