Premier League heavyweights Chelsea are reportedly weighing up a cut-price move for Crystal Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha this summer.
According to a report by Media Foot, Wilfried Zaha is the subject of interest from Chelsea over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Ivory Coast international could leave Crystal Palace on a cut-price fee as he has entered the final year of his contract.
Wilfried Zaha has spent most of his professional career with Crystal Palace. And he has barely had a forgettable season with the Eagles. The only time the 29-year-old failed to make his mark during his playing days was when he played for Manchester United and Cardiff City (on loan). But he has rediscovered his best form since rejoining Crystal Palace eight years ago.
The Ivory Coast international has a solid record of 83 goals and 73 assists in 429 appearances thus far for Crystal Palace. But Zaha faces an uncertain future at Selhurst Park as he has entered the final year of his contract with the Eagles. And Chelsea might look to pounce if he is available for a cut-price fee.
The Blues have endured a frustrating summer transfer window, as they have failed to sign most of their primary transfer targets. Chelsea wanted to bolster their offensive unit with two wide attackers but have only managed to secure the services of Raheem Sterling thus far.
Chelsea had agreed to a transfer fee to sign Raphinha from Leeds United, but the Brazilian forward got his dream move to Barcelona, leaving the west London club in limbo. Since Raphinha decided to snub a switch to Stamford Bridge, very few players have emerged on Chelsea’s radar.
Ousmane Dembele was another top target for Chelsea, but he has renewed terms with Barcelona, with the Blaugrana frustrating the Blues to no end this summer. Zaha has now emerged as a viable target for Chelsea, who might have a relatively clearer run at the Crystal Palace talisman.
The 29-year-old is a target for AS Roma, but a move to Chelsea might be more appealing. Zaha, who was Sir Alex Ferguson’s last signing as the Manchester United manager, might even have a point to prove by joining Chelsea, showing that he can stamp his authority at a Premier League bigwig.
Judging by the scintillating form he has shown in pre-season thus far, Chelsea should launch the offensive to sign him. It will be interesting to see if the Crystal Palace talisman becomes a top target for the west Londoners in the coming weeks.
